Back on track

The last few weeks have been slightly hectic (no exaggeration I promise) hence for the lack of weekly blog posts. I've spent some time thinking about various aspects of my final project... which is going to be completely different to my pilot in terms of its execution, sound and web layout! (all for the better though!). So what's been going on the last few weeks?

A few changes (good changes- progress)

Originally the now mediated government were called Medicon, I'm changing it to Medicorp primarily for the reason everytime I say or write Medicon, I think of Transformers (that could be another project for another day!). Also, Medicorp seems a more authoritive, serious, regimented and therefore fitting name. My second change/ new addition is that of the project title. Drum roll please...

I've decided to call my project, Despotism ( a term I heard whilst watching The Corporation and researched) meaning a 'form of government in which a single entity rules with absolute power. That entity may be an individual, as in an autocracy, or it may be a group,  as in an oligarchy. The word despotism means to "rule in the fashion of a despot" and does not necessarily require a singular "despot", an individual'.  (Thank you Wikipedia-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Despotism) which is fantastically fitting for what I'm trying to achieve as the term roughly translates as 'one with power'.

I did play around with the term 'Zeitgeist', taking the Zeit and coming up with Media Zeist, Medizeist, but I found it didn't roll off the tongue as nicely as Despotism.

Images to come but I'm playing with the idea of a silhouette figure (blacked out) with tape (different block colour in a criss-cross) across the mouth on the homepage that would act as a visual indicator/signifier to my final project.

Having thought about whether to incorporate both/either speech bubbles or voice over, I've taken the executive decision to go for both. I have decided to use both as I feel together they will add value to the user experience in  creating dialogue and an atmosphere as I'm concerned that there will be a loss of interest and lack of engagement if I were to just use the generic speech bubbles.

The Corporation (2003)

Apart from Starsuckers this has got to be the best documentary I have come across (so far). I was a cynnical being before watching this but after watching this it was a cynnical overload as well as inspiration for my own final project! Excellent. I'm planning on incorporating The Corporation into my motion comic as my protagonist will be watching this in the opening scene (as Medicorp have complete control, documentaries/ film material such as The Corporation are illegal as it does not befit their propaganda and 'brainwashing' effort).
